エディー・ジョーンズが語るJAPAN WAY（2015年3月）

日本代表ヘッドコーチのエディー・ジョーンズによるコラムを、2013年春シーズンから毎月掲載します。
ラグビーワールドカップ２０１５で世界トップ１０を目指す日本代表の指揮官が、自身のラグビー観や代表の現状、そして「JAPAN WAY」とは何か？　をファンの皆様に向けて語ります。

3月上旬に2回目のメディカルチェックを無事終えることができました。メディカル面で心配な選手は何人かいますが、ラグビーワールドカップへ向けて4月6日から始まる合宿へ自信を持っています。ワールドカップで勝つためには以下のポイントに焦点を当てなければなりません。

- 準備
- 努力
- 態度

ワールドカップに向けて、個々のフィジカル面を最大限に引き出すためには、各選手に特化した準備をする必要があります。全選手が忍者のような身体を持ち、狭いスペースの中で素早く動けるようにならなければなりません。

また、100％の努力が常に必要です。しかしながら、残念なことに日本人の選手はこれが不得意なところです。それは高校と大学で長時間の練習を何となくこなしているという歴史があるからでしょう。日本代表の練習は短時間で強度が高いため、最大限の努力が常に要求されます。思考の転換が必要なのです。

毎日のトレーニング、ミーティングや試合、日々の生活の中で「勝つ」という姿勢を持つことは必須条件です。Japan Wayは日本のラグビーの文化を変えつつあります。アップテンポでスキルを使うラグビーは伝統的な日本のラグビー～スローでセットピース重視の戦い方～と正反対です。国内ではこのプレースタイルでも成功するかもしれませんが、歴史を振り返ってみても国際試合では通用しません（過去24年間、ラグビーワールドカップで一勝もできていない）。つまり、日本代表はスローでセットピースを重視するラグビーでは勝てないということです。

文化を変えるのは難しいことですが、100％の努力、各選手に特化した準備、勝ちにいく姿勢で臨めばきっと変えることができるはずです。これがまさしくJapan Wayです！

We have now completed two medical camps at the beginning of March and whilst we have a number of players with medical concerns, we look forward to beginning our Rugby World Cup (RWC) campaign on 6th April with confidence. To win at RWC, we need to focus on;

- Preparation
- Effort
- Attitude

Our preparation must be specific for each individual player to ensure they are physically optimized for the RWC. Each player must have a ninja body – the ability to move quickly in small spaces.

Effort must be 100% all the time. Unfortunately Japanese players are not great at this. They have a history at high schools and universities of coasting through long sessions. Our training is short and intense and maximum effort is needed all the time. Mindset change will be needed.

The attitude must be to win every day – every training session, every meeting, every game. The Japan Way is changing the Japanese rugby culture. Up-tempo, skillful rugby is dramatically opposed to slow set-piece rugby - which is traditional Japanese rugby - a style that can be successful domestically but international, as history shows (no RWC wins in 24 years) Japan cannot win playing slow set-piece rugby.

Changing culture is difficult, but with 100% effort, specific preparation and a winning attitude, this is achievable – this is the Japan Way!
