メディアでは昨今代表チームのメンバー選考について議論がなされています。ひとつ指摘させて頂きたいのは、代表のヘッドコーチである私の任務は、勝利するための最強のチームを選ぶことです。決して才能を育てていくことではないのです。もし日本人の選手たちが国際レベルで戦える選手として育っていないとしたら、批判の矛先は私ではありません。見直すべきは強化育成のストラクチャーなのです。私は国際レベルで戦える能力を持った選手を選ぶだけです。例えば、185cmで100kgのバックローの選手なら、ジョージ・スミスのようなスキルとセンスを持っていなければ、その選手は国際レベルのラグビーが出来るとは言えません。それが現実です。 ジャパンウェイとは、日本が国際レベルで成功するための手法を提供するものであり、選手を育成するものではありません。もし育成するものというならば、我々は代表チームとは言わず、アカデミーチームとでも名前を変えるべきでしょう。 さて、私たちは今、ラグビーワールドカップ2015（RWC）へ向けた準備期間の4週目に入っており、選手たちは素晴らしい努力と姿勢を見せています。RWCへ向けたウォームアップゲームの初戦として、アジアラグビーチャンピオンシップ第1戦で韓国代表と戦いましたが、その内容は粗が目立っていました。 4～5月は選手個人個人に照準を当てています。現時点でチーム全体として仕上がった状態を求めてはいません。仕上げるのは9月19日。遅過ぎても、早過ぎてもいけません。 イングランドへの事前の視察遠征。選手たちは実際に自分たちが試合をするグラウンド、練習施設、日々を過ごす町などを見て様子を把握することが出来ました。ブライトンコミュニティスタジアムで行う初戦の南アフリカ戦は特別な試合になるでしょう。スタジアムはまだ建設されて一年あまりで、そのハイブリッドな地面は、特に早い試合を展開させるでしょう。 Eddie Jones - Eddie's "JAPAN WAY"- 2015 AprilIn the media there has been much discussion around selection in the national team. Let me address one point. My job as national head coach is to pick the strongest team to win. My job is not to develop talent. If Japanese players are not being developed into international players, do not point the finger at me, point the finger to the development structures. I can only pick players that are capable of playing international rugby. For example, 185cm, 100kg backrowers cannot play international rugby, unless they have the skill and sense of George Smith. This is a fact! The Japan Way is providing a way for Japan to be successful at international rugby, its job is not to develop players, otherwise our name would be the Academy team, not the national team. We are now into week 4 of our Rugby World Cup 2015 prep, and the effort and attitude of the players has been first class. We played Korea in our first warm-up game toward the RWC and were very “rusty.” Our focus in April/May has been on individual prep so I’m not expecting the team to click now ~ We need to “click” on 19 September, no later or earlier. The recce tour to England. The players now know the ground they will play at, the training facilities, the towns they will live in. The first game against South Africa in the Brighton Community Stadium will be special. The stadium is only one year old, has a hybrid surface that will be super fast. Eddie Jones
