About Asian Scrum Project

We promote International Cooperation activities through Rugby with the following 3 objectives;

  1. rugby development primarily in Asia
  2. deepen mutual understanding and promote an inclusive society primarily in Asia
  3. make a social contribution of human resources to develop various programs

In executing actual projects, we engage ourselves mainly with the following 3 SDG’s among total 17 SDG’s.
Goal-3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
Goal-4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
Goal-5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Recent Initiatives

The division was established in 2011 and has been executing various programs mainly to send Rugby coaches and Development experts to primarily Asian countries. Since 2013, the JRFU has been cooperating with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to promote rugby related volunteer initiatives. After a year and a half suspension due to Covid-19 crisis, Rugby volunteers resumed in October 2021. The division also collaborates with Sport for Tomorrow initiative promoted by the Japanese government, and also works with diplomatic and exchange programs promoted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Future Initiatives

The division will continue to promote, Rugby development in other Unions, mutual understandings and grow human resources, as means to achieve “a society where anyone can enjoy Rugby anywhere and anytime”, a target set in Japan Rugby Mid Term Strategic Plan 2021-2024. We also commit to the Diversity and Inclusion statement issued by Japan Rugby Football Union. We will further strengthen the existing collaboration with other divisions within Japan Rugby Football Union.
