 日本代表ヘッドコーチのエディー・ジョーンズによるコラムを、2013年春シーズンから毎月掲載します。 5週間で６試合のテストマッチ──それは嵐のように忙しい日々でした！ 世界のトップ10以外のチームが、テストマッチの試合経験を積めるこれほどまでに大きく素晴らしい機会を得る事はさほど多くはありません。 私たちはこの６試合の最初の３戦（トンガ代表戦、フィジー代表戦、ウェールズ代表との第1テスト）を落としましたが、そこから多くの事を学びました。それは、自分たちが「Japan Way」 に対して確固たる信念を持たなければならないということです。スキルフルなラグビーをプレーし、シェイプを用いた意図的な攻撃をしかけ、モーションとリンケージを遂行、国際舞台で戦うためのマインドセットを持つこと。そして、何よりも勝利を愛して止まないチーム―それが「Japan Way」です。 私たちはまだまだ発展途上であり、目標への道のりは遠いです。しかし、ラグビーワールドカップが開かれる2015年にはピークを迎えます。 ストレングスのレベルは向上しましたが、今後さらに20%程度引き上げなければなりません。セットプレーのクリーンボールの獲得率は70%まで上がりましたが（昨年のグルジア代表戦でのスクラムからのクリーンボール獲得率は17%）、2015年のワールドカップではクリーンボール獲得率が90%になっていなければなりません。2年で20ポイントの上昇が必須なのです。 ディフェンスではまだ相手を止めきるだけのパワーに欠けますが、成長していることは明らかです。選手たちは本当に一生懸命取り組んでくれました。そして、今後２年間も、それを続けなければなりません。 ファンのみなさんの日本代表チームに対するサポートは素晴らしかったです。 Eddie Jones - Eddie's "JAPAN WAY"- 2013 July6 tests in 5 weeks. It was hectic ! Not many teams outside the Top 10 get this great, enormous opportunity to gain playing experience. We lost the first 3 matches, and learnt a lot. We learnt that we need to have an iron grip belief in the Japan Way; a team that plays their rugby with skill, an intent to attack with shape, motion and linkage, and an international mind-set. A team that loves winning. We are still a long way from where we need to be, but by September 2015 we will be peaking. Our strength levels have improved, but we still need to improve by approximately 20%. Our set piece has been improved, and we are now winning clean balls at about 70% (last year in Georgia, we won 17% clean balls from scrum) but we need to be at 90% by RWC2015. 20% improvement in 2 years; that is the target. Our defence still lacks stopping power, but the improvement is evident. The players really worked hard, and will need to keep this up for the next 2 years. The support for the team was fantastic.
