エディー・ジョーンズが語るJAPAN WAY（2014年1月）

新年明けましておめでとうございます。
仕事に復帰して一カ月を過ぎたことは、とても喜ばしいことです。体調も99％まで戻りました。今年最初の合宿が行われる4月初めまでには、100％になっているでしょう。

2015年にイングランドで開かれるワールドカップまでの道のりは、中間点まで来ました。選手個々において、そしてチームとしても、一貫した成長が必要な年です。

私達の最初のミッションは、アジア五カ国対抗で優勝してワールドカップの出場権を獲得することです。このミッションを達成するために、準備も心の持ち方もしっかり照準を合わせなければなりません。その後は、歴代の日本代表の中で最高のチームになるための過程として、IRBパシフィック・ネーションズカップで優勝し、新たな「トップ10」チームを打ち負かしたいです。これが鍵となる重点エリアです。
私たち自身のプレーに関して言うと、私たちのベストプレーは最上級といえます。しかし、基本的なプレーでミスを犯すことで、トップチームに対して十分なプレッシャーを与えるには至っていません。この問題を解決するためにはトレーニングのやり方を改善することが必要です。まだ選手に対して十分なコーチングができていませんでした。
国内ではトップリーグも大学も試合が混戦しています。いくつかの試合は高いクオリティを保っていますが、多くの試合が意図のないキックで台無しになっています。
「Japan Way」はポゼッション（ボール保持）を前提にしたラグビーです。攻撃をするにはボールを持っていることが必要であり、良い攻撃をしなければなりません。シェイプとリンケージはJapan Wayの鍵です。シェイプとリンケージを持つことでアタックの選択肢が増え、日本代表が他チームを打ち負かす強みとなります。こうして、日本はTop 10入りを果たすのです。

Happy New Year.

It has been great to be back at work for over a month and I’m about 99%.

By the beginning of April, our first camp, I will be 100%.

We are at the half way mark to the Rugby World Cup 2015 in England, so this year consistent development is needed individually in the players and as a team.

Our first mission is to win the Asian 5 Nations and qualify for the World Cup. Our preparation and mind set must be spot on. Then we would like to win the IRB Pacific Nations Cup and beat another Top 10 country, on our way to becoming the greatest team ever to represent Japan. This is a key focus area.

In terms of our play our best plays are first class, but fundamental errors do not allow us to build enough pressure vs. top teams. So the way we train must improve, we have not coached well enough.

Domestically, the Top League and university games have been mixed. There have been some high quality games, but a lot of games are marred by mindless kicking.

The Japan Way is possession-based rugby. We need the ball to attack and attack well. Shape and linkage are keys to the Japan Way – they give us options and are our competitive edge. It’s the way into the Top 10 in the world.
